About Doctrines

Trinity

God is one. This is the position of the entire Bible. Deuteronomy tells us there is but one God.

Deuteronomy 6:4 (NASB)
4 "Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one!

At the same time, Scripture presents God as three separate and distinct Persons. This is the doctrine we call the Trinity. The word "Trinity" does not appear in the Bible. However, God is clearly described as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Consider these verses:

Matthew 28:19-20 (NASB)
19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

2 Corinthians 13: 14 (NASB)
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

For a fuller study of the Trinity, go to our complete discussion of this important doctrine, The Trinity.
