Hypostatic Union

The Incarnation is part of the heart of the Gospel message. Jesus, God's Son, came to earth as a human. This is the Christmas story. It is beyond our comprehension how this event could actually occur. The mystery of the perfect union in Jesus of God and man will remain just that, a mystery, at least until we arrive in heaven. Yet, the event is clearly laid forth in Scripture, including the reasons behind such a marvelous occurrence.

Scripture is clear that no person may see God and live (Ex. 33:20). How, then, is it possible for men to know God except from a distance?

God starts the process for men to know Him.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (KJV)

Jesus came to earth, the Christmas story, as a man (Matt. 1:23; John 1:14, 18). This was a voluntary decision on Jesus part, one designed to fulfill God's plan.

Philippians 2:7-8
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. (KJV)

While on earth, He lived a sinless life.

2 Corinthians 5:21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (KJV)

Jesus reveals God to us perfectly since in His human life He is the image of God.

2 Corinthians 4:4
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. (KJV)

As perfect man and perfect God, Jesus becomes the key to our intimate knowledge of God.
