Current Events >> Skeptical #2 -- how unbalanced are the Geeks?

So, same topic but different focus? Not exactly.

Here I go over a week without posting a blog, and now I am talking about the same general topic twice in a day. The topic is skepticism. This one is different than my thoughts on the Academy Awards news coverage, but it is still the same general concept.

I am amazed at how many focused groups believe the entire world sees, or should see, all events from their perspective. The first of these is my last article posted earlier today on the news coverage concerning the Academy Awards.

Now, I have come across a blog from the geek / nerd / technical world. To this group the entire world revolves around technical concepts involving computers / the world wide web / software / blogs, well, you get the idea.

This group has complained for years about how backwards and slow the US is in not providing broadband connection coverage to the entire country. The prime model is probably Korea where the entire world can be connect at DSL plus speads enabling them to have a "satisfying" Internet experience.

Now, first my disclaimer. I love web work and believe used properly the web is a wonderful tool to assist us. If I cannot work full time in a ministry, my second choice is to be in web / technical work. However,

Technical advances and the web are not the center of human existence. For many it does not even come close. Family, certain sports activities, specific hobbies, and a long list of job functions come first for most people.

The Bible says that God is first.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV) 13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

God is the only thing that will matter in our life. This is difficult for many people to accept, but I firmly believe this is the TRUTH.

What brings about my tirade against the technical world is an article found on a tech blog that discusses a recent survey that determined there are more people simply NOT interested in the web or broadband connection than there are people who have dial-up and simply cannot get to broadband. In other words, there are a lot of people in the world who do not care about the web!! Either they just don't care or the web does not satisfy there requirements.

This comes as no surprise to me. I am amazed that more people do not recognize this. The world has never discovered a single item / topic / concept that captures the entire focus of the world. Even Jesus who should have accomplished such a focus was ignored by many. This will all change at the return of Christ when the entire world will acknowledge God and Jesus.

In the meanwhile everyone has a huge hole in their spirit. This hole is caused by a lack of God. Rather than filling it with God, people seek help elsewhere. This results in the odd focus placed upon various concepts over the years. Many use other religions to fill this hole. Scientists use their science, frequently evolution, to attempt to fill the hole. Most technical people fill the hole with hardware / software / web concepts.

The trouble is, none of these will actually fill one's need for God. They do, however, focus people into their sin in such a fashion that they become amazed that no one else views the world as they do. This results in the astonishment from those in the technical field when it is discovered that not everyone desires to use the web. Many do not even own a computer.

And, the experiences of Korea ought to send a message. Many (a majority) of those using broadband do so to join 24-48-50+ hour gaming events. Games and the like become the focus of the individual. What a wonderful replacement for God! A game! Amazing the modern day idols used to replace God.

So, broadband is not bad, but a view that determines the entire world should be seeking broadband so they can better experience the web assumes too many concepts about technology that not everyone agrees with. Why is this a surprise to the tech world? My mother does not even own a computer -- by choice!

Computers are not a replacement for God. Neither is the world wide web. Further, the world wide web does not always resolve the problems you have. It is a wonderful resource, but it is also the home of much harm and sin. Just look at the porn sites and all of the fraud schemes that float around. Why does anyone want a god where you can catch a virus or loose your identifity?

Why do some think this is the "ultimate?"

God is the ultimate. When will the world wake up and recognize this?
