God's Attributes

Transcendence

Psalm 115:3
But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases.
NKJV

God is independent of, above, and distinct from this universe. This is referred to as His being Transcendent. He is outside, above, and before this time-space universe.

The covenant name of God, Yahweh, stresses God’s transcendence, independence, and existence as its basic meaning.

Exodus 3:14
And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” NKJV

Isaiah 46:8-10
8 “Remember this, and show yourselves men; Recall to mind, O you transgressors. 9 Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,’ NKJV
