God's Attributes

Omnipotence

Job 42:2
I know that You can do all things, And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.
NASB

Omnipotence means that God is all-powerful. He has full control over all things. He may do whatever He desires, without any limitation or secondary means. We may take great comfort in the fact that He exercises this power in perfect harmony with all of His other attributes.

Matthew 19:26
And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
NASB
Revelation 1:8
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
NASB
Revelation 19:6
Then I heard something like the voice of a great multitude and like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns."
NASB.
Mark 14:62
And Jesus said, “I am; and you shall see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”
NASB

God is the omnipotent Creator

Genesis 1:1-3
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. 3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
NASB

God is the supreme Commander

Psalm 107:25-29
25 For He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, Which lifted up the waves of the sea. 26 They rose up to the heavens, they went down to the depths; Their soul melted away in their misery. 27 They reeled and staggered like a drunken man, And were at their wits’ end. 28 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, And He brought them out of their distresses. 29 He caused the storm to be still, So that the waves of the sea were hushed.
NASB

God sustains the world and all that is in it

Colossians 1:17
He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
NASB
Hebrews 1:3
And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high
NASB

God exercises His power in relation to mankind

Daniel 4:17
“This sentence is by the decree of the angelic watchers And the decision is a command of the holy ones, In order that the living may know That the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind, And bestows it on whom He wishes And sets over it the lowliest of men.”
NASB
Acts 12:21-24
21 On an appointed day Herod, having put on his royal apparel, took his seat on the rostrum and began delivering an address to them. 22 The people kept crying out, “The voice of a god and not of a man!” 23 And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died. 24 But the word of the Lord continued to grow and to be multiplied.
NASB

But the greatest display of power was in the resurrection

Romans 1:4
who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord, NASB
Acts 4:33
And with great power the apostles were giving testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and abundant grace was upon them all.
NASB

God cannot do that which would contradict His own holy character or essence.

(1) He cannot lie because He is absolute truth

Titus 1:2
in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago
NASB

Since He cannot lie, all of His displayed attributes make it impossible for Him to annihilate or destroy Himself because such an action would be contrary to His being eternal, immutable, and all wise.

(2) He cannot deny Himself or His Word

2 Timothy 2:13
If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.
NASB

(3) He cannot be tempted nor will His holiness allow Him to tempt others

James 1:13
Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.
NASB

(4) He cannot stand the imperfection of sin

Habakkuk 1:13
Your eyes are too pure to approve evil, And You can not look on wickedness with favor. Why do You look with favor On those who deal treacherously? Why are You silent when the wicked swallow up Those more righteous than they?
NASB
